Oh dear. What's happening to Venezuela? On second thought, put up your hands if you're surprised that Venezuela's government - read Chavez - has begun rationing electricity. If your hands are raised then give yourself a good bash on your head with them. This is a travesty. Venezuela is an oil-rich country, rolling in the dough. Just what is happening to all that money being made by the government as it doesn't seem to be filtering down to the people? Could it be that Chavez's socialist dream doesn't benefit anyone living there (apart from him and his cronies of course). If Obama has his way, the USA will soon be experiencing similar outages.....VENEZUELA'S government says it has begun rationing electricity across most of the country because of recurring power outages.
Energy Ministry official Igor Gavidia said rationing is affecting 19 of Venezuela's 23 states.
He said power will be shut off for three hours every day to help stabilise the system.
The plan announced today comes a day after blackouts hit nearly half of Venezuela.
Officials blamed failures of transmission lines.
Critics contend the government hasn't invested enough in new electricity projects to keep up with growing demand.
